Festivals
A very important aspect of the community is our cultural life. We celebrate the Christian festivals and everyone is encouraged to take part in the preparation of these festivals e.g. by taking part in a play, joining the choir or making music.
On Saturday evenings we mark the end of the week with a formal conversation and meal together, which we call Bible Evening. Here we can set aside our daily concerns and create a peaceful space in our busy lives. This is truly a social occasion.
On Sundays there is usually an offering service at the sister community - the Grange Village - or a service from the Christian Community at the chapel in Oaklands. Many community members attend a service in one of the local churches, or celebrate Sunday however they feel is right for them.
Many evenings have cultural activities arranged either within the communities of the The Grange and Oaklands Park or in the sourrounding Forest of Dean.
There is an introduction course for those new to the commmunity in which we share our ideals and try to explain why we are doing things the way we do.
Living on the land also brings communal festive events like the carrot harvest or when the cows are first let out in the spring. |
